Overview

Home to Cloudland Canyon and the Largest Hang Gliding School in the U.S.

Rising Fawn is an unincorporated community in southern Dade County, sitting in Lookout Valley along U.S. Route 11 near the Alabama line. According to local tradition, it was named after the child of a Cherokee chieftain who declared a fawn rising from its bed at dawn the most beautiful sight he'd seen.

Rising Fawn is home to Cloudland Canyon State Park, one of Georgia's most scenic state parks, and to Lookout Mountain Flight Park, described by the park's own operators and Dade County's government as the largest full-time hang gliding school and resort in the United States.
