On the Tennessee River at Chickamauga Dam
Hixson is a historic Hamilton County community on the west bank of the Tennessee River, bordered on the east by Chickamauga Dam. It was named for the Hixson family — pioneer Ephraim Hixson Jr. settled the North Chickamauga Creek basin in the 1830s.
Much of Hixson has been annexed into the City of Chattanooga since the 1970s, though the U.S. Census Bureau still tracks a Hixson census-designated place for statistics. Today it's known for Northgate Mall, Greenway Farms park, and its riverside location.
